Mikaela Bautista is a 23-year-old behavioral tech from Rancho Cucamonga. She stepped in front of the judges to perform Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love for You," and she did a stellar job. She sang beautifully, however, she didn't impress all three judges enough.
When she crooned her final note, she received a round of applause. Again, she did sing well, but Carrie Underwood had reservations over her nervousness and how it affected her singing.
Despite Underwood saying Bautista has a lot of "potential" and a "lovely voice," she had to hit her with the dreaded "no."
It ultimately didn't matter, as Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie got her through.
But that wasn't the end of it. Bautista's family came rushing through, including her dad Vhen who used to be a singer in the Philippines. The moment the judges identified the dad, they asked Bautista and Vhen to perform together.
And... they sang so well that Vhen almost got a ticket to Hollywood and Carrie Underwood wanted to change her judgment. You can see the incredible audition below.
Internet Reacts To Audition That Changed Underwood's Mind
Fans of the show loved the audition so much that they took to YouTube to relive the moment. They shared their thoughts in the comments.
"Thirty seconds into her singing with her dad I started crying!! So beautiful!! Thank you!! Bravo!!" exclaimed a fan.
"Mikaela has a graceful delivery and really shines in that duet. Dad deserves a golden ticket too. Angelic approved," wrote one, and I have to agree.
"Love her dad & glad Carrie changed her vote!" another commented. Although many skeptics will claim the moment to be staged, and it very well could be, the moment is a heartwarming one nonetheless.
"I couldn't believe Carrie said NO!!! Glad she changed her vote!!!" said one more.
The moment struck a chord with all the fans out there who loved their duet together.
