Earlier this year, it seemed the trio behind the hit "If I Die Young" would be making a comeback after going on hiatus in 2023. Although it had a few scheduled performances, the absence of Reid Perry during its appearance at the RedWest Music Festival in Salt Lake City on Sunday, Oct. 12, raised a few eyebrows.
Now we know why the bassist wasn't with the band that day.
Reid Perry Is Leaving The Band Perry
Reid announced yesterday, Oct. 13, on social media that he was leaving the trio named after his family.
"To the fans, you've always been my favorite part of this. I've decided to leave TBP," he shared.
"I'll be missing seeing you in the crowd at a Band Perry show but I'll be around, managing a new voice I believe in more than anything, Ryan Coleman," he continued.
"For me it was and will always be about making great country music, with and for the hardworking people who love it and live it. Thank you for every memory, I'll see you back in the saddle. I wish Kimberly and TBP the best as they move forward into the future."
This Makes Kimberly Perry the Last Original Member of The Band Perry
Neil Perry left The Band Perry to pursue a solo career. He released his first single, "If You Can't, Don't," in 2024. Johnny Costello, Kimberly Perry's husband, replaced him.
Reid's departure officially leaves Kimberly as the last original member of the group. She shared her support for Reid's decision in the comments of his Instagram post.
"Reid! Wishing you the most wonderful successes in your new era! Love you, brother!" she wrote.
Garth Brooks' manager Bob Doyle discovered The Band Perry in 2008. The band released its self-titled debut album, which featured the number one country hit "If I Die Young," in 2010.
The trio transitioned into electropop in 2018, then announced a hiatus in 2023 to focus on solo projects. Kimberly released a solo country music EP, which featured "If I Die Young Pt. 2," a sequel to the band's biggest hit.
