Luke Bryan has a new nickname for Carrie Underwood. Underwood, who is judging this season of American Idol with Bryan and Lionel Richie, has earned a lot of respect from the "Country Song Came On" singer, for how well she knows music, of all genres.

"I kind of pride myself on being a jukebox, but she is literally a country music jukebox," Bryan admits to CMT. "So when I start singing something, she jumps right in, no matter if it's from the '70s, '80s, '90s, present day. She literally is like a jukebox. So we're having fun singing on the set. And Lionel just looks at us, like we're crazy."

Before Underwood joined American Idol, it was Katy Perry who sat between Bryan and Richie, for seven seasons. Although both Bryan and Underwood are country music superstars, it wasn't until Underwood joined Idol that the two became good friends.
"It's going great," Bryan tells Extra. "Carrie and I had always been in the business together, but we never spent much time together, so to sit behind the desk and watch her really learn how to transition out of being the winner of American Idol and a superstar to being the judge at the table, but she's doing good. The main thing is as long as she don't pick up any of my habits. I don't want to influence her in any way."
Bryan might have been with American Idol since its move to ABC in 2018, but neither he nor Richie had a say in who was going to join them as a judge.
"As far as decisions, no, I didn't get any vote, but that doesn't mean we're not super excited to have Carrie," Bryan said at a recent media event. "They asked opinions and stuff, and everybody they were bringing up, I was like, 'That would be great. That would be great.' ... I think me and her, and our love for country music, and the brand of country music, will really line up. Obviously, I'm more [wild], and Carrie's more very graceful and elegant, so we'll see how she handles me. Katy was worse than me. Katy was like, 'Oh my God, she's going there.'"
