Have you ever wondered what happened to the characters after a movie ends? Oftentimes, we get so wrapped up in the world building in a film. We frequently wrap ourselves in the environment they live in, like we're in it with them. Additionally, the characters can be incredibly relatable where they feel like someone in our own lives. 80s hits like The Breakfast Club were great with this. We knew people like Emilio Estevez and Molly Ringwald's characters. The detention they suffer through is all too relatable.

When they're all so familiar, it's hard to divorce yourself from that world. Don't you want to know what their characters would be doing off screen too? Thankfully, we have an answer. Recently, Andrew Meyer, a producer for The Breakfast Club, spoke with PEOPLE amidst the film's 40 year anniversary. There, he addresses a burning question about the film: do they all go back to their lives like nothing ever happened? Or do they stick together in some way? Meyer argues the latter.
The Breakfast Club Producer Shares What Happens With The Characters When The Film Ends
"In a way, it's a love story," Meyer says. "Those kids in that library... they had their differences and they had their fights. The conversation after seeing the film was always, 'Will they be friends Monday morning?' But you could see that they would always be connected."
Additionally, Meyer argues for the film's lasting impact because of how specific that time period was. When watching The Breakfast Club, it helps remind people of simpler, maybe even better times. "That's a world that isn't here anymore," he explains. "There were no school shootings then. The problems the teens in the film had were parental, which is certainly not insignificant, but there wasn't the kind of imminent danger that many kids face today."
"It was a different culture of being safe in a school. You're watching kids just having fun and talking. There was an innocence to the time. People watch that movie and it's comfort food," Meyer adds of The Breakfast Club.
