Ballerini, who is sharing coaching duties with Adam Levine, Michael Bublé and John Legend, reveals that McEntire left a note for her in her red swivel chair.
"Dear Kelsea, I heard you would be the new coach this season and I'm just so excited for you," Ballerini recalls (via People). "It's up to you to keep country alive on the show and I know you'll do a terrific job. Now go out there and show those boys who's the boss."
McEntire also says she left Ballerini a "little good luck charm in case you need it," which was McEntire's crown, which she wore as "Queen Reba."
Kelsea Ballerini on The Voice
This is Ballerini's inaugural season as a coach on The Voice, although she's appeared on the show in various roles in previous seasons. The 31-year-old already made history on the show, by being the first coach to use the Coach Replay to steal a contestant. In this case, Ballerini turned her chair for Dan Kiernan, who sang "High Hopes" by Panic! At The Disco, after both Legend and Bublé had turned their chairs around.
"You're amazing. You have such an aura about you. I didn't turn my chair, and I'm not quite sure why," Ballerini said. "I'm gonna do something. I'm gonna do something crazy," she said. "There's this thing. I only get one. It's called a Replay, and I'm going to try to challenge them."
Ballerini admits that she made a mistake, which is why she used her Coach Replay after two coaches had already turned around.
"It's my first season. I made a mistake, and I think you're fantastic," Ballerini said. "I would really like to put my name in the running here!"
Fortunately, it worked, and Kiernan became part of Team Kelsea. Season 27 of The Voice airs on Monday nights at 8:00 PM ET on NBC.
