Willie and Faron Young spent some time looking back on the good old days together in an
interview. They've been friends for the longest time and have a whole collection of stories to share. But, it was revealed that Willie Nelson almost sold his famous 'Hello Walls' song to Faron Young for only $500.Nelson was all out of money and needed a way to make a quick buck. Young had been singing 'the song'Hello Walls' previously, having heard it from Willie. It had been an instant hit with his friends, with them all singing along instantly. Even his wife thought it was a winner.
"I sang it to Sue (his wife), and she told me, that's a hit, honey you cut that thing," Faron Young recalled. "I tried to sell it to you one time," added Nelson, talking about the famed 'Hello Wall' song. "He did," replied Young. "I said no, no, you don't sell it. I'll loan you the money, and so I loaned him the money, and about six weeks later, he had a check for about $20,000, and we've been friends every since."
'Hello Wall' Could Have Been A Different Song Entirely
Of course, Faron Young could have taken the song he knew would be a hit from Willie Nelson for a steal. But he's also an artist and a good friend. He knows that the song was Willies, and should be tied to the man's name, and thank god it was.
Of course, Faron Young is an icon of the country music scene, but he has his own style. Willie Nelson wrote 'Hello Wall' with the intention of singing it himself. It fits him to a tee and even now is a favourite from his monstrous repertoire.
The song must have made Willie Nelson thousands of dollars over the years. Of course, Faron knows this and still has no hard feelings about turning down the offer. That's what you call a good friend.
