20 years ago on American Idol, judge Paula Abdul gave Carrie Underwood a piece of jewellery, and the star still has it to this day.

On last week's episode of Idol to Icon, Carrie Underwood reflected on her Top 5 performance back when she was a contestant. When watching her performance of "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts, she noticed the ring she was wearing.
After her stunning rendition of the song, the judges gave feedback. Of course, they were glowing (despite Simon thinking her performance was a little robotic). When judge Paula Abdul gave feedback, Underwood remembered that it was Abdul who gave her the ring she was wearing at the time.
"Also, I just realized, the ring on my finger, Paula gave me," she said. "She came by and gave all of us jewellery one time, and I still have that ring."
A still of the ring appeared on screen to give us a better look. It's a beautiful and large ring, smitten with diamonds. I can only imagine Abdul gave the Top 5 contestants rings, although Underwood never elaborated on that detail.
"It's diamonds, it's so pretty."
You can watch the episode to see the ring below.
"Bless The Broken Roads" Meant A Lot To Carrie Underwood At The Time
Later in the episode, Carrie Underwood reflects on why she performed "Bless The Broken Roads" in the first place.
"That song, I feel like, really connected with me," she explained. Underwood had a pretty crazy time on Idol. She previously shared that she never thought she'd actually win, and was considering what career prospects she could take away when she got sent home.
So, to reflect on her journey through the Rascal Flatts song was a powerful thing to do.
"You're thinking about your journey, your life, and all the things that had to line up, or go wrong, or go right, or whatever, to get you to where you are."
The song still carries weight with Carrie Underwood today. Of all her trials and tribulations in life, at least they've guided her toward where she is today.
