The Reason Granger Smith is Returning to The Stage Despite Retirement

What does it truly mean to retire in music anymore? Creative people always have that itch to tinker around in one way or another. The brain doesn't stop cranking out ideas, even if they might come slower with age. This is all true for normal work too, people just want to keep busy or at least get out of the house every once in a while. It stops being about survival at some point and more about desire. So what's bringing Granger Smith back to the dance after calling it quits in 2023?

Back in April 2023, Smith shared his intention to step away from country to dedicate himself to ministry work. "I don't want the Granger Smith name to be famous," he says. "Instead, I want to proclaim the name of Christ, the one that washed me clean, the one that has freed me from my shame and guilt, the one that gave me a new heart." Nowadays, though, he's teasing a slight comeback for fans still yearning for his country performances.

Granger Smith Returns to The Stage After Brief Hiatus to Ministry Work

Recently, Smith posted a video, where he reads out a letter to his country alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr. and teasing a festival return. The Lord has been kind to our family. London is now 13, Lincoln is 11, and Mav is 3 and a half. You know he never got to see you live, but he watches all of your videos, especially Diesel, and speaking of, that's actually something I'd like to talk to you about," Granger says.

You see, we're having our big Yee Yee Fest on May 9th and 10th. Well, me and brothers, we kind of kicked around the idea of me playing a concert. It wouldn't be a tour or anything, but maybe this could be the one time a year people come to the farm and see me play," Granger adds. Especially the kids, like Maverick, who would love to see some of those songs performed live with my old band. But you know, it sure would be better if you could show up too, just like old times."

Don't call it a comeback per se. But you can expect the temporary return to form, like an exhibition back to Granger Smith's old days.
