The Song That Forced Blake Shelton To Rush Out A Record To Capitalize On Success

Having a hit record can be, well, inconvenient. Blake Shelton knows the truth of that statement. When he had a song called "Honey Bee" that suddenly proved extremely popular in 2011, he had to rush an album out, Red River Blue, to capitalize on its success. Some singers might say that it's a good problem to have! Shelton described how he successfully scrambled to deal with it on YouTube.

Blake Shelton Said That Finishing An Album In A Hurry When 'Honey Bee" Got Hot Was Not Simple, But Worth It

Shelton looked back at the time when "Honey Bee" garnered intense popularity. "Little did I know we would release 'Honey Bee,' I would start doing The Voice and 'Honey Bee' would be my fastest rising single of my career. We put that thing out there with about half of an album done. We kind of had to hurry up and get in there and finish the thing."

He added, "Luckily, we already had some things cut, and we just had to go in and cut about 6 or 7 more songs, and we had to do it in about two weeks. Which is not easy. When things are good and it's exciting, you're pumped to get in the studio...."

When "Honey Bee' became a number 1 hit, I bet Shelton was glad he worked so hard on the album!

Co-Writer Ben Hayslip Talked About How He And Rhett Akins Crafted 'Honey Bee'

Per The Tennessean, Hayslip said, "...[O]nce we got into the song, we figured, 'If anyone's going to cut this, "It's going to be Blake Shelton. So we started trying to write it directly for Blake."

He added, "It was a little cutesy. I actually had a demo session the very next day after we wrote this song...We kind of just decided to throw it on there and see what happens. And nobody (else) ever heard the song besides Blake from the time we wrote it and demoed it."

They all caught lightning in a bottle with that song. People warmed to it right off the bat. Whimsical tune, great performer - what's not to like?
