Last year, the singer sat down with Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show, where he spoke on a variety of topics. He spoke of his family, his past, and of the song that changed his life.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to his fans that "Save Me" is the singer's most personal hit. The moment Howard Stern brought up the song and began to play it, Jelly Roll bowed his head. "It changed my entire life."

For some context, the song was written at the height of the pandemic, not long after his father passed. It's such an emotionally charged song that hit the singer with overnight success. "Save Me" has impacted Jelly Roll both personally, emotionally, and career-wise.

You can tell the song hits home when he starts shaking his head when the vocals kick in.

Even his wife, Bunnie, knew that "Save Me" would be the one. "I sent this to my wife, Howard, and she sent it right back to me and said, 'This will be the song that changes your life.'"

"Save Me" Came To Jelly Roll In A Dream

I know it sounds crazy, but apparently the first line of his 2020 hit came to him in a dream.

"It's the only time in my career this has happened, and I don't want to sound like a quacko when I say it, Howard, but truthfully, I heard 'somebody save me' in a dream," he explained. "To the point I thought I stole it."

"I just heard the 'Somebody save me' part," he recalled. The rest of the song was born from the single line he heard in his sleep. He was so fixated on that line that he thought it had to be the chorus. Writing the song took longer than it should have due to being so adamant about it.

Ultimately, "Save Me" was written. Within 72 hours, it was on his YouTube sitting on over a million views.

The song did end up changing his life, as it hit close to home for so many listeners out there.
