The Unusual Breakfast Order That Merle Haggard Regularly Ate

I'm all for inventive eating, even so, sometimes I am shocked by someone's order because it is so outlandish. It turns out that county music legend Merle Haggard had a seriously odd breakfast order, but his local didn't mind. He was an in house tourist attraction.

The diner Merle Haggard used to frequent and order his odd breakfast in is one of those American cornerstones. Lulu's has been sitting there since 1978 and is a roadside establishment that serves good food and good coffee. The spot has had the same waitress working there for 40 years, and she remembers Haggard well.

Marci Biancalana started working in Lulu's as a bartender, and now running the place as a manager. She remembers the order that Merle Haggard used to order every morning for his breakfast. He would get himself a plate of Dollar-sized pancakes and oysters with spinach and beans on the side. Sometimes he would get sausages or rye bread on the side. Now, that is an odd order, but I kind of want to try it.

Merle Haggard Became A Big Draw For The Breakfast Diner

When people learned that Haggard would come down to Lulu's for his breakfast every day, they also arrived in their droves. "He came in here for a long time. I knew Merle since the 1980s and then he just started coming in here every day... "People all around know that his booth is here and they'll say, 'Can we sit in Merle's booth?" Biancalana looks back.

Rolling Stone happened to mention his residency at Lulu's in a 2009 article, and then that was it. People came to the diner to watch Merle Haggard munch his breakfast and get some signed merch. "You know, it was amazing, just by that article, how many phone calls we got and how many people would want to talk to him. People would walk in with their guitars and ask for an autograph on their guitar or ask for an autograph on their hat if he was here," the lifelong waitress said.

he had obviously found a spot that worked to simply sit and watch the world go by. Sure, there were probably better places for Merle Haggard to eat his breakfast, but his corner booth suited him just fine.
