It seems like everyone is transitioning to country music these days. From Sabrina Carpenter making her Opry debut to Lana Del Rey, everybody wants a piece of the action. However, one person excluded from this narrative is Doja Cat. She claimed in a recent interview that country is the one genre she doesn't see herself in.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the singer revealed why she thinks everyone is experimenting with genres these days. She said, "I think that coming out of the '90s, there was a hope for the future and artists were doing everything and playing with irony."
"It's just gotten more and more ironic over the years, like rappers wearing skirts...rappers wearing skirts is a big one, and dresses - like that was being in touch with their feminine side."
She also said that because more people are embracing different aspects of themselves musically, this has allowed her to "feel like there are no barriers" when it comes to her own art. When asked if there's a genre that she won't get into, she very directly stated, "Country." But even though she identified herself as a "rapper that makes pop music" and not country music, she still feels like she has room to be experimental.
A New Album and World Tour
Doja Cat, whose birth name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has had quite the career so far. She has been making music for years. But it wasn't until 2020 when her song "Say So" became a viral dance trend on TikTok. After that hit, she started topping the charts. By the time her 2021 album Planet Her came out, she had solidified herself in the industry as someone to pay attention to.
This Friday, her fifth studio album, Vie, will be released, which she has described as a more "pop-driven project" compared to her previous work. She said that the new album reflects "love in a way that reflects how I want it to be in the future - my hope, my hopefulness."
She has also explained that she has taken a lot of inspiration from her therapy sessions for this album, where she learned a great deal about "rushing and love bombing."
Along with the new album, Doja Cat will be kicking off her world tour on November 18, 2025. She will be hitting up cities in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia for the fall.
