This Viral Commercial About “Sellin’ Beer on Christmas” Is a Hilarious Ode to Small Town Life

A store located in a small town in Michigan gained nationwide attention for its ad about "Sellin' Beer on Christmas."

However, when you live in a place like Emmett Township, Michigan, with a population of just over 2,500 people, finding a cold brew on the holiday can be difficult. 

Thank goodness for Ethan and Denice Trombley, the mother-son team working at Trombley's Country Market. Every year, the convenience store opens from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Christmas Day, offering sandwiches, pizza, and 12-packs of your favorite beer. 

So to let those in the area there's someplace open to get what they need, Ethan and Denice made a commercial featuring a country-tinged ditty they titled "Sellin' Beer on Christmas." This ode to celebrating the holidays in a small town has caught on in a big way.

Trombley's Country Market Sells More Than Beer

The video begins with Ethan and Denice dressed for the holiday, selling coffee and cinnamon rolls and chatting up the locals. 

The chorus shares that the Trombley family has done this for three generations, "just keeping the lights on like they always do," as the song goes. 

They're open if you need batteries for your kid's gift or ingredients for Christmas dinner. But if you're thirsty (and over 21), they always have a cold one ready.

"But the reality is, we still sell more beer than anything else," Ethan shared with MLive.com. "The true reason we're open is to serve our community in any way we can, and that includes beer, so here we go."

The Whole Town Got in on the Fun

Ethan, who has a background in marketing, shot the video over three days last month. Not only does it star him and his mom, but it also gathers family, friends, and the store's regulars. There's even a cameo from the North Pole's most famous resident. This group effort signifies how close-knit things are in a small community. 

"The whole process was really, really fun," Ethan said. "It signals who we are, and I wanted to communicate our personality. When you come to our store, you're going to have a great time and see something special."
