Tim McGraw Almost Recorded A George Strait Classic

Everyone knows that songs get passed from artist to artist in Nashville. However, it is always strange to think that some country classics were almost recorded by a different country legend.

Tim McGraw has revealed that one of George Strait's classic songs was very nearly recorded by him instead.

The singer recently sat down with Tracey Lawrence on the TL's Road House podcast. In a section for answering fan queries, one fan asked Tim McGraw if there were any songs that slipped through his fingers and went on to be recorded by another artist.

McGraw mulled on this question for a moment. There have been a few songs he's passed on to other artists believing they'd be a better fit for the song over the years. However, one song came to mind that went on to another that he wished he'd cut instead.

"I don't know that I've ever passed on anything that I wished I had," McGraw said, beginning to trail off. Until he suddenly remembered the one that got away.

"The only song is 'Carrying Your Love With Me.' George Straight song," he revealed.

It's weird to think that Tim McGraw could have been the voice behind the tender classic.

Tim McGraw Regrets Passing On The George Strait Classic

Tim McGraw explained that he passed on the song as he didn't want to step on Strait's toes.

"It just so happened that one of the songwriters pitched it to him and one of the songwriters pitched it to me at the same time," he explained. "I put it on hold, and he put it on hold. Then it got back to me that George had it on hold, and I'm like, well, I'm not getting in a p--sing match with George Strait."

"So, it's George Strait's song."

"So, that's one of the ones I hate missing out on. Because that's one of my favorite George Straight songs," he explained. To think that one of your favorite songs from another artist could have been his must drive him crazy at times.

Of course, that's the business, and there's no bad blood. I'm sure he'd do a brilliant cover of the track.
