Tim McGraw Leaves Netflix Drama to Undergo Back Surgery

Netflix loses out on one of its most reputable country voices for their upcoming rodeo series. Recently, Deadline reports that Tim McGraw is departing from the untitled series in order to undergo back surgery. Initially, he was intended to star and executive produce the show but now he's out for the foreseeable future. There's no word if McGraw is staying on board as executive producer but his role will be recast for another actor should the project continue.

You might wonder: how labor intensive was this role going to be where Tim couldn't stay on board? Apparently, it requires a lot of physicality on McGraw's part as a bull riding superstar and champion. Then, a young, rising star would come in and challenge his status, causing him to reckon with his past, present, and future.

Tim McGraw Departs From Netflix Rodeo Drama to Recover From Surgery

Tim McGraw's been facing quite a bit of physical ailments late in his life. His lower body has been experiencing a ton of physical trauma, to the point where he can't even run anymore. "I've had two knee surgeries and I've broken my right foot three times and I've had elbow surgery," he reveals in a 2022 interview. "I can't run anymore, that's what I really miss. I used to run a lot but now I really can't so that's out of my routine."

The most recent work Tim McGraw did as an actor was with Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone as James Dutton. Additionally, he appears with his wife Faith Hill, who plays Margaret Dutton, in the Yellowstone prequel 1883. Time will tell if McGraw will end up in any more acting roles in the future and if these injuries will impact what shows he takes on. Moreover, we'll see how these physical ailments will impact his live performances as well.
