The "Shake It Off" singer announced on social media today that she and Travis Kelce are engaged, sharing a photo of Kelce on one knee hugging Swift and another showing a diamond ring.
The caption reads, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."
It All Started With a Podcast
The long-awaited announcement comes after two years of Swift and Kelce dating in the spotlight.
Swift recently appeared on Kelce and his brother Jason's podcast, New Heights, on Aug. 13 to discuss their relationship and her upcoming album,The Life of a Showgirl, expected Oct. 3.
"This podcast has done a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast. This podcast got me a boyfriend, ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app about two years ago," Swift said on the show.
Yes, the podcast was the impetus for introducing Swift to Kelce. After a failed attempt to connect with Swift during an Eras Tour performance in Kansas City, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end called her out on an episode from July 2023.
"If you're up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it," Kelce told Jason on the show. He added that he was "a little butthurt" that he "didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets" he made for her.
It All Worked Out Between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
Obviously, it all worked out in the end. After rumors swirled throughout the summer that the couple were dating, the singer appeared alongside Kelce's mother, Donna, at a Chiefs game on Sep. 24. Swift soon became a fixture of NFL coverage, with many wondering if she would appear at both the Chiefs' Super Bowl appearances. (She did, by the way.)
Then, in the off-season, Kelce returned the favor, becoming part of Swift's show during several dates.
Fans speculate which songs on Swift's last album, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' are about Kelce, with many pointing to "The Alchemy" and "So High School." Judging by the Instagram caption, they were right.
