George Jones was a fantastic singer, one in a category with the greatest of the genre. He passed away in 2013 at age 81. The man known affectionately as The Possum left behind a glorious legacy of wonderful music that will resonate always. The duets he did with other superstar artists are an especially memorable facet of Jones' distinguished career.

He blended his voice with such a wide array of vocalists. Among them were Keith Richards, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, and of course, the beloved woman he wowed, wooed and wed, Tammy Wynette, per Wide Open Country.
So we will take a look back at some of them now with reverence, joy, and abiding respect for one of the very best country music icons.
'Two Story House' With Tammy Wynette
Jones and Wynette were married for only a few stormy years. Whatever their marital issues were, they certainly made beautiful music together. That is the case with this classic, emotional song, Two Story House, a number one hit from 1980 that was on the Together Again album. Wynette co-wrote it. She and Jones made the most of this track that aches with pathos and heartbreak. It describes a couple that reaches their dream of having material wealth, but loses their love in the process. A melancholy marvel.
'Burn Your Playhouse Down' With Keith Richards
This is an unlikely pair! It's hard to imagine the country music titan with the famed Rolling Stones guitarist, but their duet really works nicely. It's a slice of good old-fashioned country music, fiddles and all. Richards gets in the rollicking spirit of the endeavor right away. He and Jones sound terrific. The song is on Jones's last studio album, Burn Your Playhouse Down - The Unreleased Duets.
'The Blues Man' With Dolly Parton
Parton had warm words for Jones, per Whiskey Riff via Amazon's Country Heat podcast. "Oh, yeah, I have a big heartache over the fact that I never did an album with George Jones, who was my favorite singer, and with Merle Haggard." She did, however, get to do this duet with Jones. The song is a Hank Williams Jr. classic. These two longtime superstars found their groove singing together.
'Bartender's Blues' With Trisha Yearwood
Yearwood has her hubby, Garth Brooks, to warble with, but she does beautifully with Jones. This song was written by James Taylor. It's on his 1977 album, JT. Jones and Yearwood do the fine-tune justice. Fans of these two will definitely love it. Classic country!
