TV Actor Steps Back From Acting To Work As Border Patrol Analyst

Actors sometimes decide to limit their full-time careers in front of the camera for various reasons. Maybe they need personal more time for family. Or they have other professional interests they want to pursue. It could be that not enough meaty roles are coming their way. Another motivation can be the difficulty of navigating life in the constant glare of social media and the press, both of which can be intrusive. For Vincent "Rocco" Vargas, per popculture.com via Instagram, it was a huge switch so he can serve his country. He "accepted a new position as a Management & Program Analyst within the Strategic Planning and Analysis Directorate (SPAD) for the U.S. Border Patrol." But he said he is not done with acting.

Acting May Still Be In Vargas' Future

Vargas, 43, who played Gilberto "Gilly" Lopez on Mayans M.C., said he definitely isn't stepping away from acting for good. "I'm still acting. If there's a big role that shows up, and I get offered the position, obviously, I'll have to make a decision ... I'll take some time off and go do that." That is welcome news for his fans.

He Described His New Responsibilities

Per the outlet via LinkedIn, it seems like Vargas' new role requires a blend of key skills. His work "will focus on the front-facing image, messaging, and strategic communication, ensuring that the Border Patrol's mission, challenges, and successes are accurately represented." With all the attention being paid to the situation at the border, messaging and communication will clearly be essential functions.

Vargas comes to the job very well-prepared. In just a little more than a year and a half, he finished not one but two master's degrees, one in in psychology and the other in journalism. That deep knowledge of those fields will undoubtedly serve him extremely well in his new capacity.

He is "excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully!"

Vargas Has An Array Of Impressive Credentials Besides Acting

According to the outlet, he was in the U.S. Army before he became an actor. Vargas had three combat deployments. "He later became a Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security in 2009, and served a Medic with the Special Operations Group."

Ten years ago, he pivoted to a career path in entertainment.
