Country couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have become embroiled in a contemporary remake of a classic tale that I definitely did not see coming.

According to Deadline, Stefani and Shelton are two of the non-writing executive producers for a new Prime Video series, Dorothy. A YA retelling of The Wizard of Oz.
What?!
It seems Blake Shelton is really throwing his hat in the TV ring this year. First, it was The Road, and now it's Dorothy.
Gina Mathews is directing the project, who also directed Isn't It Romantic (2019) and Reminders of Him, releasing next year. "I've been in love with The Wizard of Oz books since I was a child," she said. "The story reminds us of the qualities we need to get through hard times, and Dorothy is a symbol of strength who shows us that with a little kindness — and a lot of grit — we can not only achieve great things but also lift up those around us. I'm excited to bring that message to the world, now more than ever."
Alongside Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, other non-writing executives include Lee Metzger, Grant Scharbo, and Patrick Moran.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Talk About Involvement With 'Dorothy' Project
The singer stars have shared just how excited they are to be involved with the modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz. It's a classic tale that has remained relevant for decades, so it's no wonder they took the chance to be involved.
"We're really excited about all the possibilities this show brings," began Blake Shelton, "and I'm so grateful that Gina shared the idea with me and Lee."
"I knew right away it was something Gwen would connect with. Her creativity and perspective are such a natural fit for this project."
Speaking of Stefani, she also had something to say. "It's a creative and modern take on a classic, and being part of something that blends music, emotion, and the character of Dorothy is inspiring to me," she said.
I wonder just how involved they'll be, and if we'll see any telltale signs of their involvement in the show.
