Tim Allen recently revealed his latest upcoming sitcom and a superb cast lineup, including the legendary Stifler from the American Pie movies.

ABC released an official trailer for Allen's new series, Shifting Gears, on December 30, 2024. The show premieres on ABC and Hulu on January 8, 2025. Based on the trailer, the plot seems to revolve around Allen's character, Matt, a gruff owner of a car restoration garage. His daughter Riley, played by Kat Dennings, moves back into the family home with her teenage kids as she's broke, and hilarity ensues.

Seann William Scott also makes a welcome appearance. According to TVline, Scott plays the role of Gabriel, a family friend of Matt and Riley. Gabriel works at the car restoration shop with Matt.

The series seems to focus on Matt's complicated relationship with his daughter, who "gave him the double bird" as she left the house at 18 years old. In classic Allen comedy fashion, Riley retorts, "I was 18; a double bird was how we ended all of our conversations" in the trailer. This should give you a good idea of the style of humor you'll find in Shifting Gears. It looks like lighthearted fun from the teaser, and the show may not be afraid to tackle more serious themes.

What has Seann William Scott Been Up To Besides The Tim Allen Sitcom?

The inclusion of Seann William Scott will be enough for many to give Shifting Gears a chance. If you grew up with the American Pie films, Scott absolutely nailed his role as Stifler. Though I don't think you can ever beat his dance-off scene in American Wedding, he had dozens of superb moments throughout the movies. If you're not a fan of American Pie, he also crushed it in Evolution in 2001. He acted alongside David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, and Julianne Moore.

Scott also voiced Crash, an Opossum in Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012 and Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016. His most recent film role was as the Rugged Man in 2024's Jackpot! According to IMDB, Scott also has a couple of upcoming roles in Dolly and Bad Man. Both are movies currently in post-production.
