Was Adrien Brody Banned From 'SNL'? See Footage Of The Skit That Got The Actor Not Invited Back

Now that Adrien Brody snatched the Golden Globe award for Best Male Actor thanks to his portrayal of László Tóth in The Brutalist, many are reminiscing on the actor's career. For many, however, a specific infamous incident came to mind: his Saturday Night Live skit that apparently got him banned from the show. Was he actually banned? Let's find out.

Adrien Brody talked with Vulture back in December 2024. Among touching on several aspects of his career, he talked about his infamous SNL sketch. To put the bizarre footage you are about to see in context, this 2003 clip was from the first and only time Adrien Brody was asked to host Saturday Night Live. That year, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of W?adys?aw Szpilman in The Pianist.

While introducing Jamaican musical guest, Sean Paul, Brody wore a wig and spoke in an almost intelligible Jamaican accent.

"They were all literally agape from me pitching," Brody said. However, the SNL crew got him the costume, which he got to wear during a dress rehearsal. "I think Lorne wasn't happy with me embellishing a bit, but they allowed me to," Brody continued. "I thought that was a safe space to do that, weirdly."

When inquired about the rumors that he was banned from ever appearing back in Saturday Night Live, Brody said that they weren't true. However, it appears the truth is a bit more complicated than just a "ban" or "not banned" status. "But I also have never been invited back on," Brody said while laughing. "So I don't know what to tell you."

An Emotional Win

During his acceptance speech, Brody acknowledged the other actors nominated in his category. These include stars such as Daniel Craig, Timothée Chalamat, and Ralph Fiennes, among others. Brody, however, became visibly emotional while thanking his partner, Georgina Chapman.

"To my beautiful and amazing partner Georgina, your generosity of spirit, your own resilience, your immense creativity are a daily reminder of how to be," Brody said. "I would not be standing here before you if it wasn't for you. There was a time not too long ago that I felt this may never be a moment afforded to me again, so thank you."
