On Wednesday, July 30th, Carrie Underwood, who has been doing NBC's Sunday Night Football opener for 13 years straight, announced she would be returning to TV for the 2025 season. Just yesterday, NBC Sports and Underwood collaborated to share a sneak peek of the opener that fans can expect to see on their screens this year.

The full video, which will premiere on Sunday, September 7th, will show clips of the Bills and the Ravens, who are set to kick off the 2025 football season. Underwood can be seen in the teaser clip (which you can watch here) singing "Waiting All Day For Sunday Night", the song that has been the face of the franchise since Pink first initiated it in 2006. Looking stunning in a sparkly blue dress and white boots, Underwood delivers a captivating performance of the ballad. At the same time, football players occasionally take the stage, reminding viewers that Underwood actually isn't the only reason they're watching.
What Would Sunday Night Football Be Without Carrie Underwood?
Even though fans wouldn't know, as she's held the position for ages, Carrie Underwood hasn't been the only opener that has graced the screens of Sunday Night Football. The first-ever opener was Pink in 2006, who was also the first to record the theme song. In 2007, Faith Hill took up the torch and put her spin on it for six years.
Of this year's opener, directed by Tripp Dixon, Underwood said, "We had a blast shooting the new opening at The Resorts World Theatre again. As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can't wait for the world to see it!"
Underwood is actually the only opener ever to stray away from the original ballad, which she did from 2016 to 2018. Her first twist was with a parody of her own song, "Something Bad", which she renamed "Oh Sunday Night", and sang for the 2016 and 2017 openers. In 2018, she tried her hand at using her songs again with "Game On", but ultimately decided to revert back to the classic for her seventh season. Since then, she's been singing about Sunday night like it's her job (it is), and fans can expect to see her back in the saddle on September 7th.
