Wendy Williams Speaks Out About Dementia Diagnosis

One of the sadder developments is what has happened with Wendy Williams. She was placed under a guardianship back in May 2022 and diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and progressive aphasia in 2023. However, now, she's fighting back against such claims and feels like she's trapped.

Recently, Williams went on a phone call with Don Lemon for his podcast. There, she sets the record straight on whether or not she's truly incapacitated with dementia. In the audio, she sounds like she has plenty of clarity, no struggle for communication. The only thing that's for certain as that Wendy feels like she's been in prison the last three years. "My life is ridiculous," she laments to Lemon. "I've been with this guardian person for three years. For three years of my life... I'm isolated. I feel like I'm in prison. I can't go out. All I can do is look at the window."

Don asks pretty directly whether or not Williams is truly 'incapacitated' or not. She responds with a resounding and defiant "Hell f-king no" afterwards. So naturally, the former CNN anchor inquires about the validity of her dementia diagnosis. This question truly shakes Wendy to the core, feeling a lot more rigid and fearful about how she can answer it. Additionally, she fears that her family won't see her again. "I don't know how much I can talk without being punished," she says. "[I] won't be able to see my dad, and I won't be able to do anything, and I'll be stuck in this prison I'm in for the rest of my life."

Previously, Wendy broke down into tears over the phone on The Breakfast Club. There, she repeatedly insists that she's not cognitively impaired. Then, she lashes out on air in a heartbreaking sequence. "Do I seem that way, God damn it?" she cries out in despair.
