Whiskey Myers's Acoustic Rendition Of "Night Moves" Is A Worthy Cover Bob Seger Would Be Proud Of

Whiskey Myers is already known for their killer original songs, but the band isn't opposed to doing covers as well, especially of iconic rock and roll classics. Case in point: while on their acoustic tour last year, the six-man band led by Cody Cannon, added their own rendition of Bob Seger's "Night Moves" to their set list, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

"Night Moves" isn't the only cover song the band performs on tour. They also added Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Things Goin' On" to many of their nighttime shows. But it's "Night Moves" that really shows off lead singer Cannon's vocal abilities.

Bob Seger's "Night Moves"

"Night Moves" was the title track of Seger's ninth studio album, out in 1976, and the first he released as Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. Written by Seger, the song has since been covered by numerous artists, most notably by Dolly Parton, who includes the song, sung with Chris Stapleton, on her 2023 Rockstar album.

Seger had already released more than 20 singles by the time "Night Moves" was released. But it was "Night Moves" that became Seger's first Top 10 hit. The song's inspiration not surprisingly, came from a woman.

"I was shy, super shy," Seger tells Mix Online. "And I happened to fall into a faster crowd than I'd ever been in before. Because I played music, I was sort of a gimmick for those guys. And I got to meet the really 'hot' chicks, and I had my first great love affair, which is what 'Night Moves' is about. It's about that girl."

The romance with the girl didn't last, but it did inspire Seger creatively. Seger had the idea to write "Night Moves," as well as other songs, after seeing a popular movie.

"The album as well as the song were inspired by American Graffiti," Seger says. "I came out of the theater thinking, 'Hey, I've got a story to tell, too! Nobody has ever told about how it was to grow up in my neck of the woods.'"

Fans who missed Whiskey Myers' acoustic tour last year will still have plenty of chances to see them in 2025.
