When a catastrophe like the LA wildfires destroys thousands of homes and lives, people like to point fingers. But Whoopi Goldberg has her own take on the California wildfires and has received some heated replies as a result.

Her point, which has its merit, is that California is a tinder box, at the mercy of Mother Nature. As the globe continues to heat up, places like LA are going to be susceptible to wildfires. Whoopi Goldberg, who has lost many of her homes to wildfires, says that there is no point blaming the destruction on anyone.
"It had to do with winds - the winds move things and sparks move things," she began. "It doesn't matter how much water you have if 900,000 buildings go up at the same time. We don't control Mother Nature. Mother Nature doesn't give a d--n what we want."
She explains that it isn't up to anyone to control where and when drastic weather conditions strike. It's the will of nature to decide what goes up in flames and what doesn't. Instead, Whoopi Goldberg says we should be looking at where we can help in the wildfire relief efforts rather than trying to pin blame.
Whoopi Goldberg Touches On A Hot Topic With Wildfires
Although she does have a point, many people aren't happy with her opinions on the wildfires. As always, people need someone to blame for the vast amounts of devastation. Most are looking towards Gavin Newsom for answers. As Governor of California, people are saying he has dropped the ball.
Fire services were defunded under his leadership, water resources were drained, and little was done to prevent the inevitable fires. However, Whoopi Goldberg doesn't think he should be blamed for the wildfires. "You should be pointing fingers about, how can we help. It's too soon to be saying, oh it's Gavin's fault, it's nobody's fault," she said on The View.
But, commenters on X aren't convinced, and many make a fair point. "It's Gavin Newsom's fault.
The wind happens. Everyone knows the Santa Ana winds blow every year. So, people would manage the land and clear the brush, do controlled burns to remove deadfall and store adequate water resources. But, none of that happened - per Newsom." The wildfires are a known event almost every year. Precautions could have been taken by the man responsible.
