Sure, the "Firework" singer went to space, but that adventure was overshadowed by backlash over flaunting the supposedly costly flight to her fans.

There were also several headline-grabbing incidents during her "Lifetimes" tour. Then came the reports that her relationship with Orlando Bloom ended.

Amid all this, this latest New York Post report appears to mark a new topic surrounding Perry that is sure to steal headlines.

Katy Perry Is Suing a Disabled Veteran in a Property Dispute

Perry is demanding $5 million from Carl Westcott, a former Army serviceman in his late eighties. He was the owner of a $15 million Montecito, California, home that Perry purchased over five years ago.

The property dispute began over five years ago after Perry and Bloom purchased the eight-bedroom home from Westcott. Reports say the couple begged the veteran to sell the home to them as they were expecting their child.

However, just days after the sale, Westcott attempted to back out of the deal, arguing that because he was on pain medication due to recent back surgery, he didn't have the mental capacity to sign the contract.

A Judge Ruled in Perry's Favor Two Years Ago

In December 2023, a judge ruled in Perry's favor, claiming there was no convincing evidence that Westcott was incapacitated enough to sign a contract. Perry's lawyer also claimed he courted another offer from Maria Shriver.

Perry then countersued Westcott for over $3 million in lost lease income, over $2 million for alleged repairs to the home, and $3 million in legal costs. When this lawsuit was filed, Westcott was bedridden and suffering Huntington's disease, a degenerative neurological condition.

Now, following these legal developments, Perry is seeking $5 million in damages from the litigation over the sale.

The veteran is currently in hospice receiving around-the-clock care. Westcott's son has said the case has strained his father's health. He adds that an apology from Perry would be welcome.

"This isn't just a lawsuit, it's now a David and Goliath narrative - a global superstar with wealth, legal resources and leverage versus an elderly, declining veteran who already lost his home," said PR strategist Abesi Manyando. "And that dynamic carries emotional weight."
