Willie Nelson Says He Can't Smoke Weed Anymore & Reveals What He Does Instead

Willie Nelson was one of the biggest advocates for weed back in the day. He wasn't that dissimilar from Cheech & Chong when it comes to lighting one up. His advocacy for it to be legal is incredibly well documented. Moreover, he eventually won that battle in the long term, though Texas is still thorny towards the idea. However, in his old age, you might wonder if he's finally putting his love for weed to rest. The answer to that is... not fully.

Recently, Willie spoke with Forbes ahead of his upcoming album, Oh What a Beautiful World. There, he also promotes his latest THC-infused drink, Willie's Remedy. Nelson is no stranger to the edibles of the world, clearly a big part of his own weed business too. However, he's also favoring them because he can't exactly smoke the way he used to.

Willie Nelson Can't Smoke Weed Anymore But He Still Gets His Intake

The publication asks Nelson what keeps him 'young on the road,' especially at his advanced age. There, he admits that he's retired his ashtrays and the act of smoking. His body simply couldn't take it in that regard anymore. However, to make up for this loss, he still indulges in other ways. "My lungs have already said, 'Don't do that,'" Willie says. "So, I don't really do anything now much except a few edibles. I think it's good, the people like it from what I've seen and heard. It's getting to be pretty popular out there."

It's this love for weed that has also kept Nelson grounded over the years. He's said in a past interview that smoking kept him sane, from lashing out at people and being a bad person in the world. "I wouldn't be alive. It saved my life, really. I wouldn't have lived... if I'd have kept drinking and smoking like I was when I was 30, 40 years old," Willie explains. "I think that weed kept me from wanting to kill people. And probably kept a lot of people from wanting to kill me, too — out there drunk, running around."
