According to a report by East Idaho News, the high-speed chase occurred on Wednesday at around 5:20 PM. Troopers for the Utah Highway Patrol spotted Annamae Cabalsa Martinez, 45, blasting down the road at 120 MPH. An officer gave chase and reportedly said in an arrest affidavit that they had to drive at 130 MPH to catch up.

Martinez was allegedly driving at closer to 95 MPH when the trooper caught up. The trooper was reportedly flashing the vehicle lights with the siren on to get Martinez's attention. The affidavit then explains that she sped up to 120 or 130 MPH.

Police Used Spike Strips To Bring The Chase To A Close

East Idaho News explains that troopers attempted to stop the speeding driver with spike strips. They were unsuccessful on the first go but punctured the front left tire on the second try. The outlet notes that Martinez had managed to get 100 miles away from where troopers first spotted her before she stopped.

The puncture reportedly dragged Martinez's vehicle to the right side of the road, which is where the situation took a strange turn. Instead of cooperating with police, the driver reportedly refused to exit the vehicle or obey any commands. She even declined to wind down her windows. Officers reportedly used a loudspeaker to get her attention, but Martinez ignored their attempts.

This awkward standoff allegedly lasted for about 40 minutes. At some point during that time, Martinez decided to call AAA, the association that provides roadside assistance. Police say she "called AAA to get her tire fixed."

The AAA reportedly transferred the call to the police, who then managed to get a trooper at the scene on the line. It's unclear what the trooper said to convince her to cooperate finally, but she exited the vehicle shortly after. Officers arrested Martinez for reckless driving and failing to stop for police.
