Woman Found Alive in Coffin After Being Brought in for Cremation—and My Biggest Fear Just Became Reality

After a 500-mile trip to where the woman wished to be cremated and her her organs donated, it was discovered that she was alive

Working in a crematorium must be creepy. You're surrounded by death, day in, day out. And, if Hollywood has taught us anything, those places are usually the first spots Vampires look to get their blood fix if they're trying to stay under the radar. Well, that and blood banks — we're looking at you, Damon Salvatore.

With that in mind, you can imagine the horror a temple in Thailand suffered when a coffin that was bought in for cremation turned out to have a live person inside.

Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a Buddhist temple on the border of Bangkok, recently released a video of a woman lying in a white coffin. The woman in the video can be seen moving her arms and legs, if only slightly.

When speaking with The Associated Press, Pairat Soodthoop, the temple's general manager, explained how, when being driven to the crematorium by her brother, they began to hear a faint knocking from inside the coffin.

"I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled," he said. "I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time."

The Brother Believed His Sister Had Passed Away

Soodthoop has since explained that the brother believed his sister had passed away. Apparently, the woman in question had been bedridden for two years and had recently become unresponsive. However, after her brother had driven the nearly 500-mile trip to Bangkok, where his sister wished her organs to be donated, the hospital turned him away. The brother didn't have an official death certificate.

It's for that same reason that the brother then drove to the temple. It's there, while being guided on how to obtain the legal document, that they began to hear the knocking.

The Associated Press reported that the temple then sent the woman to a nearby hospital. It will cover the costs of her treatment.

Nevertheless, the ordeal has likely left a few people a little shaken. The woman who was placed in the coffin is at the top of the list. Fortunately, both the hospital and temple in question did things by the book.
