Another 'Yellowstone' Spinoff In Works That Will Bring Back Major Character With A Twist

Yellowstone's flagship run ended last year, sparking a flood of rumors about the Dutton universe's next chapter. But the franchise has teased expansion with projects like The Madison, a spinoff tied loosely to the original series. Details on its connection, however, remain murky.

Another venture, a Beth and Rip spinoff, has also hit the rumor mill. Actors are hitting at its reality, yet the network is staying silent. That said, word is that pre-production may have already begun.

Now, a fresh rumor swirls around Kayce Dutton, the youngest son. Puck's Matt Belloni reports CBS is eyeing a new procedural set in Yellowstone's world, with Luke Grimes tapped to reprise Kayce as the lead. Deadline cautions no contracts are locked, but the idea is gaining traction. Spencer Hudnut, a CBS veteran from SEAL Team, has brainstormed the series for over a year. He's reportedly won nods from Grimes and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

The show could spotlight Kayce's livestock commissioner role, a post his father, John Dutton, handed him. His Navy SEAL past might also fuel the plot.

Yellowstone and its prequels, 1883 and 1923, typically air on Paramount Network and Paramount+. All fall under Paramount Global, so a potential shift to CBS is sparking some curiosity.

'Yellowstone' Spinoff In Works?

CBS aired Yellowstone's backlog during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, proving its draw there. Still, a CBS spinoff raises streaming questions. Yellowstone famously streams on Peacock, a pre-Paramount+ deal. Will this new series follow suit or join Paramount+ with the prequels and CBS lineup? At this point, it's anyone's guess.

Anyway, Grimes has reportedly shaped the concept for over a year, navigating Sheridan's approval and his own commitment to a broadcast run. The project appears to be wavering -- but yes, inching forward. If it solidifies, Kayce's SEAL skills could anchor the action.

Basically, the Dutton saga, as of today, has kept fans guessing about its sprawling future.

Per Deadline: "Grimes' Kayce is Beth Dutton's (Reilly) younger brother. In the Yellowstone series finale, Kayce signs the entire land over to Rainwater and his tribe for $1.25 an acre, the price he says 1883's James Dutton (Tim McGraw) paid when the family settled there. The sale is conditional: the sprawling land can never be developed, and Kayce, wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and son Tate (Brecken Merrill) will stay on a small parcel where they've built a house and would remain."
