All six seasons of the critically acclaimed series will begin streaming on Netflix beginning September 15. With 124 episodes to watch, you'll have plenty to binge in the coming weeks, so clear your calendars now.
What Is "Nashville" About?
The drama focuses on the relationship between the fictional country singers Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton), whose time in the spotlight is fading, and rising star Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), who is grappling with her troubled past.
The show offers a glimpse into the lives of aspiring artists in Music City. Characters include Deacon Claybourne, a talented musician battling addiction, and Scarlett and Gunnar, a couple breaking into the industry. There is also plenty of cutthroat antics and music executive meddling to keep you watching all day long.
Nashville had a pretty high pedigree behind the scenes. It was created by Callie Khouri, who also wrote the script for Thelma and Louise and the Julia Roberts comedy Something to Talk About.
But what really brought people to the show was the original music, which was performed by the cast. Producer T-Bone Burnett, who worked with everyone from Bob Dylan to Ringo Starr, served as the show's executive music producer for the first season. Some of the cast, including actor Chris Carmack, have gone on to release their own musical projects.
Didn't "Nashville" Change Networks?
Nashville premiered in 2012 on ABC. While it was consistently met with strong reviews and acquired a dedicated fan base, it often didn't perform well in the ratings.
In May 2016, the network announced it would be canceling Nashville. Viewers began a social media campaign to save the show. The next month, it was announced that due to the efforts of its fans, a fifth season of Nashville would air on CMT. A sixth season followed in 2018.
