Zach Top Honored To Lead Country Music Back To Its Traditionalist Roots

Okay, I admit it. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool purist. Especially when it comes to language, which is the essential building block of my career. Others are stick-to-the-rule-book about different things, such as country music. Some may feel that country as a genre has strayed too far from its traditional roots. Well, someone has come along to remedy that. Zach Top, 27, per Whiskey Riff, "is turning back the clock and transporting listeners back to the thick of the '90s, bringing back the sound of artists like Keith Whitley, Alan Jackson, and George Strait." Top is firmly anchored in the tunes of a throwback time - and he's very glad to be.

Some Have Likened Zach Top To Alan Jackson

He Doesn't Want To Be Just A Fad Echoing A Distant Time

Per Whiskey Riff via Billboard, Top shared these thoughts. "Obviously, I've got sonically, a reminiscent sort of thing going on from the '90s stuff. But I kind of...I feel like I cut my teeth on the same kind of stuff the '90s guys cut theirs on."

He added, "For one thing, I'm honored that people see me as sort of a spearhead or a leader back towards traditional country music or country music the way that I feel in love with it and, you know, still love. It's a fun spot to be in, and I think it's a lot of just the right place at the right time sort of thing."

Top Reveres The Validity And Importance Of Country Music's 'Touchstones'

According to the outlet, Zach Top believes that when something new and different infiltrates country music, it catches on for a while. But then it reverts back to the tried-and-true country basics.

He fleshed out that key point this way. "We've got our bread and butter, the roots, the traditions where we came from, and then something new and a little edgy comes along, and everybody gets excited about that, for good reason."

Top continued, "And (they) kind of run with that for a little while until people are like, 'Yeah, but this is where we came from. Let's get back to it a little bit.' So I think I came along at the right time for that."
