Zach Top was given some pretty sensible advice by his parents before he hit it big, and has revealed his 'plan B' career.

Anyone with creative interests, be it music, art, or acting, are always told that they need to have a 'plan B' in case their pursuits don't bear fruit. Believe it or not, Zach Top was once in that limbo, and he had a career lined up in case music never worked out for him.
The Washington country singer visited the Rodeo Time Podcast to chat with Dale Brisby. Together, they chat about a large range of subjects, including the other career Zach Top would have taken.
Brisby asked Top whether he knew that social media would play a huge role in his fame back in 2015. Zach Top replied, "I had done two years of Junior College I thought I was going to be a mechanical engineer."
As far as plan Bs go, mechanical engineering is a pretty solid one. It's weird to think of Zach Top donning a hard hat and clocking into work after him selling out arenas like no one's business.
He continued, saying how his parents encouraged him to pursue both a career and music. "My parents knew that I was really pretty good (at being a musician), but they had no connection, no idea about the music business, no idea how to point me in the right direction," he said.
Zach Top's Father Told Him To Pursue Music While Working
Zach Top continued to talk about his father's advice.
"My dad's advice was just like go get a good job that'll pay you good where you can afford to take weekends off and go play for fun at these same Bluegrass festivals," he recalled.
Again, it's solid advice, and would have paid off should music not kicked off for him. Although it's weird to picture the scene without him, now.
This does make me think of all the mechanical engineers out there who are pursuing creative endeavors. If ever you come across a mechanical engineer who wants to perform for you, take a seat and allow them. You may be listening to the next Zach Top.
At least Zach knows what to do should his music career ever fall off.
