Our parents always just want the best for us. They don't want us to struggle in the same ways they did. Whether it's giving sage advice or helping out in a more direct, monetary sense, good parents don't want us to be in the gutter. Consequently, they're more than likely to freak out when you do something risky like drop out of school. This is the case for Zach Top, though thankfully, it clearly worked out in his favor.

However, he also had to be quite sneaky about how he broke this news. Those parents are going to want a good reason why. It's no secret that his heart was in making music. His dream was to eventually take over Nashville like he has now. School was just one hell of a backup plan. But Zach explains that it wouldn't be the whole truth by saying he dropped out of school for his true passion. His love life also played a part in it as well.
Zach Top Says That Romance Was The Spark That Made Him Quit School
"I mean, I've always wanted to [make music]. That was always kind of the goal, but I think, you know, my parents having no exposure to the music business... I didn't have, being in Washington, I didn't really have anyone to guide me on what I need to do to get into the music business. So I was just playing and singing, I practiced like crazy, and that was kind of it," Zach details on the Bussin' With the Boys podcast.
"And then in college, I moved to Boulder, went to CU Boulder for a year. I guess three semesters. And then decided I hated it, and I was a year away from finishing a mechanical engineering degree, and decided I was sick of it. Well, that was my story to my parents," Zach continues.
"I started dating a girl... and never went to my circuits class and failed that class, and then I was gonna have to take, it was like one of those that only is offered in the Spring or something, so it was gonna take a whole extra year to go back and do that circuits class again. So I was like, I think I'm done. I'm gonna go work construction and save money and move to Nashville. That was not what I told my parents when I told them I was quitting school, though," Zach says.
