When looking at Jelly Roll these days, you wouldn't think his heart could hold any hate for anyone. Although he's open about the demons he's had to face, when you see him on TikTok or anywhere else, he seems like such a vibrant guy.
Well, he used to inexplicable hate Kane Brown.
Brown visited Taste of Country Nights, where he shed some light on how he became friends with Jelly Roll.
The host, Evan Paul, straight up asked Kane Brown for a Jelly Roll story, considering they've got a track together in Brown's upcoming album.
Brown then started spinning the yarn of their friendship's origin story.
"I heard of him before he ever got in the country industry," he said. As they were both in the same industry and had the "same kinda background," it was only natural for them to have mutuals.
However, despite them knowing of each other, they never really talked. Kane Brown is a shy guy, so he wouldn't go out of his way to introduce himself to people. This may have given Jelly the wrong impression.
Kane Brown Reached Out To Jelly Roll To Play 'Call Of Duty'
"[Jelly Roll] was in town, and our buddy, Taylor Phillips, he told Jelly ... so Jelly will tell you this, he hated me," Brown said. Although an explicit reason isn't given, it's likely due to Jelly Roll misinterpreting his quietness.
Phillips set the record straight, however, and told Jelly, "'Nah, man, you don't know him, he's just really quiet.'"
After this, Kane Brown decides to reach out to Jelly Roll himself. He said Brown's always there if Jelly wanted to talk, and invited him to play the online multiplayer video game Call of Duty. So they ended up playing together, and they "hit it off."
Despite Jelly Roll initially hating Brown, they've become close friends, doing everything from frequent texts to random 3 am face times.
What makes this even funnier, is that Jelly Roll confessed his initial hatred in front of his crew when shooting the music video for their latest collab. Apparently, Jelly Roll said, 'I used to f--king hate this dude, but now I love this guy!'
He had never actually admitted to this before, providing a bit of shock all around.
