Billy Ray Cyrus Makes First Public Appearance Since Inauguration Performance

After such a disastrous public outing at the presidential inauguration, how does Billy Ray Cyrus brace himself for the public spotlight again? Ideally, I'm sure he wants to be around people who aren't going to judge you for the mess he made in public and online. Moreover, it should be somewhere at least neutral, if not somewhere heartwarming. What better place than an animal rescue?

Recently, Cyrus posted a couple of pictures after attending the Nashville Humane Association's Unleashed Dinner with Your Dog event. He adopted his dogs Rain and Tommy Jack from the animal rescue. Consequently, he wanted to support the event as their celebrity guest of the evening. In the picture, he doesn't look too terrible all things considered. Admittedly, it's hard to look terribly out of shape when you're holding an adorable puppy. It almost makes you forget the messy couple weeks Cyrus just had.

This comes on the heels of the Cyrus family pleading for Billy Ray to get some help. His son Trace makes a public, concerted effort for his dad to understand he wants him to get better. "Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point," Cyrus wrote at the time.

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus reportedly wants no parts of this whole fiasco. A source told PEOPLE, "Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama. She's not about to get involved again. She's in a great place now."
