Colt Ford Shares Advice He Gave Jelly Roll for Weight Loss

It's always hard to stay on track when you're losing weight. The temptations become increasingly prominent and it's easy to let yourself off the leash. You might skip a workout, you might overindulge in food that you're not supposed to eat. There's also a ton of self-doubt that comes with radically changing your self-image. Country songwriter Colt Ford knows this crippling self-doubt well. Moreover, he knows how important it is to pass their experience forward when someone like Jelly Roll is experiencing the same issues.

Recently, Ford spoke with PEOPLE Magazine for an interview. There, he candidly talks about his weight loss journey and how he went from 340 pounds to 190.

Additionally, Colt notes a conversation with Jelly Roll that helped the country star feel more confident in his own journey. "Jelly has lost a bunch of weight. You start to think when you're a big guy like that and people love you, 'What if I lose weight? Are they going to still like me?' And I'm like, 'No, bro. I thought that for so long," Colt expresses. "No, no, no. As long as you're who you are, and you're authentic and good to people, sh--, they don't care."

Ford's commitment to bettering his health came in 2022 when doctors diagnosed him with myasthenia gravis. Essentially, the muscles in his body significantly weakened and that condition caused a heart attack.

That experience nearly killed Colt and it made him realize that his former diet wasn't feasible anymore. "There's much easier diets," he jests. "But when I tried to lose weight before when you're as heavy as I was...you feel like you're working hard and you still look in the mirror and go, 'This sucks. I'd rather just go back to [fast food chain] Zaxby's.'"

However, nowadays, he's completely clean in his daily diet. "I haven't drank a soda," Colt reveals. "I drink water and unsweet tea and I'm fine with that. I haven't had fried chicken at all. I'm eating a lot healthier. It's nice to feel good and be able to tell people like Jelly that."
