SNL50 proved to be a star-studded event to celebrate one of TV's most illustrious shows. They highlight Saturday Night Live's past and present in honoring 50 years of broadcasting. They span across the decades, from Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy to Andy Samberg and Will Ferrell, to their current crop of comedians today.

However, there were a few notable absences from the card, with Dan Aykroyd and Will Hader immediately coming to mind. One other notable name in Dana Carvey fails to make such a massive night as well. However, he's clearing the air with a valid reason why he wasn't there.
Recently, Carvey joined his cohost and fellow comedian David Spade on their Fly on The Wall podcast. There, they clear up exactly why Dana didn't make it to such a massive special. While others don't have public reasons for showing up, his reasoning is as valid as you can get. "I wasn't there, I had the flu," he explains. "I was on the downside of it, but I still didn't have the oomph to travel. Wasn't recommended."
Dana Carvey Doesn't Join SNL50 Over Brutal Bout With The Flu
Spade, however, joins that night and stresses to listeners and the other comedians that night that Dana would've killed it had he shown up. However, it does seem like Carvey was there in spirit as he frequently texted SNL creator Lorne Michaels throughout the show. Apparently, Lorne couldn't stop laughing about the jokes with Ryan Reynolds about his current lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Spade details to Dana that past issues with Eddie Murphy have resolved themselves. "I didn't talk to him but there's absolutely no anything anymore. Everyone's cool," David says. "We were friendly. We should've taken a picture cause it was fun to see him. There were no weird vibes at the show."
