The new song and music video shed a little light into the complex country singer's mind. It's no secret that the singer has been wrapped in controversy in recent years, but with "Ask," we get to see a side of him seldom seen elsewhere.

Alluding to having lost his mind at the height of his career, he warns others to reach out if they ever feel lost. Considering the mournful tone, it's clear that he wishes he had done this when he himself was feeling lost.

The slow song and deep vocals provided by Billy Ray Cyrus make the tune deeply reflective, yet somewhat hopeful. It's a perfect follow-up to the last single he released earlier this year, "Lost," where he taps into some darker themes and corners of his mind.

When writing "Ask," Billy Ray Cyrus collaborated with Ben Burgess, Yung Lan, and Brandon Manley. The former writer also lends his voice to the track and has a solo verse near the end of the song.

You can tell the words he sings come from the soul. The admittance of making mistakes and getting lost in his success makes the song even more poignant considering his history.

You can listen to "Ask" below. The song is also out on streaming platforms.

What Happened To Billy Ray Cyrus?

Many may simply know Billy Ray Cyrus as the country legend he was all those years ago. Considering he's been making headlines in recent years, it can be hard to remember what exactly happened to the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer.

To abridge years of news, he went through two high-profile divorces and was media fodder for the tabloids. Lots of rumors and speculation swarmed the singer. Yet with "Ask," he looks to his future despite his shadowed past.

Although he doesn't directly address his past mistakes in "Ask," he alludes to his troubled history pretty heavily. Could this be him reaching out? Is this the beginning of a redemption arc from the country legend?
