Megan Moroney Reveals What She Had To Do Before Collabing With Kenny Chesney

Approaching someone as big in the country music scene as Kenny Chesney with a collab proposal took Megan Moroney a bit of courage, even in liquid form.

Chasey and Moroney have previously solidified their artistic and professional friendship during the Sun Goes Down Tour. He had taken her along with her, and undoubtedly boosted her career. As a thank you she wanted to give him a little gift.

As a thank you for the chance to tour with him, Moroney had written Chesney a song. 'You Had to Be There' was going to be her way of showing her appreciation for the chance to share a stage. But penning a song for someone like Chesney is nerve-wracking. It's not often you have the chance to gift an icon of music your own work.

"There were definitely some pain killers involved — which, pain killers are a St. John's drink, I'm not talking about taking pain killers," Moroney admitted as she asked Chesney to collaborate. "I was planning on showing it to him, like, before we went to dinner, all of us. Once we got there, he's like, 'You're being so weird."

The nerves were clearly getting to her. I imagine she was full of all kinds of feelings of trepidation and self doubt. But they know each other well, and she needed to bite the bullet and give him her heartfelt gift.

Moroney Collaboration Question To Chesney Payed Off

It was a risk for Megan Moroney to ask Kenny Chesney to collaborate with a track she wrote, but it worked out. "I was like, 'Umm, I wrote you a song, here ya go!" she told him as she handed it over. Still being bashful, she followed with, "'We don't have to cut it if you hate it,'" Moroney told Chesney. "'I don't wanna make you feel weird, I promise."

She just wanted to show her appreciation for the time they had sent together on tour as country musicians. "Just know that I appreciated you so much for taking me on tour, and that's what this song means to me," she told him.

To gift someone a piece of music is something right from the heart. It's a beautiful thing to do, whether he decided to play it or not. But it paid off. The new track, 'You Had to Be There' will be coming out on the 9th of May.
