Many don't like it when country singers stand on their soapbox and speak about cultural and social issues or topics. Whenever a singer has a point to make, I can smell the 'shut up and sing' comments from a mile away.

However, country singers may be more deserving to make a point than people telling them to be quiet.

Firstly, the country genre has roots steeped in sincerity and social issues. Putting the world to rights through song is an integral part of the genre's identity. And as Charlie Crockett puts it, country singers have also spoken to people from all walks of life.

"A lot of people in country music or just in general, in America, a very divided society, will look at performers like us and say, 'We don't want to hear about your opinion on America. You just need to shut up and sing,'" he said to his TikTok audience.

Charlie Crockett Explains How Country Singers Have A Deeper Understanding Of Culture

Charlie Crockett explained why having roamed around everywhere and spoken to all sorts of people have given him a deeper understanding of culture. So yeah, he is qualified to speak on cultural topics.

"The irony is that I'm meeting every kind of American and have been my entire adult life," he continued. "I shake every kind of American's hands—all the rich folks, all the poor folks, all the people of every color, every economic background, all the genders in between, everything."

"We are actually, in some ways, more qualified than anybody to comment on culture."

"And it is ironic how often people tell us that it's not our place to speak on society," Crockett persisted. "Yet somebody who has seen very little, traveled almost none, and is unwilling to look at viewpoints other than their own is telling a well-traveled man that he's not in any position to have an opinion about the affairs of this world."

Very well said.
