Country Music Icon Marks Pride Month By Thanking Fans For Standing With Her After She Came Out

Maren Morris had a decisive, perhaps life-changing year in 2024. Not because she won a major industry award or broke concert ticket sales records, but because she announced she is bisexual. June being Pride Month, Morris evidently felt that it was an appropriate time to show her sincere appreciation to the fans who have resolutely stood with her following her disclosure, per American Songwriter.

Maren Morris Made A Heartfelt Statement To Her Devoted Fans

Speaking at the Outloud Festival in West Hollywood recently, Morris described how moved and grateful she is for all the warm comments she has received since coming out. "I didn't want to make a big press release or anything, I just wanted to say it and be normal. That's all any of us want. But what I did not expect, which was so kind, was the open arms and the warmth and support from y'all."

She Previously Spoke About Being Bisexual And The Importance Of Establishing Community

This was not the first time Morris has voiced her gratitude to the public for their loyalty. Per the outlet via GLAAD, she shared, "I wanted to be able to connect with my fans and my queer community...Especially in a time where you're in this free-for-all post-divorce reckoning, community has been so necessary for me and life-saving. Being honest and being vulnerable is the only way that you find community."

Morris was not always ready to speak about this aspect of her private life. "I've always known that I am attracted to men and women...I think because I've been in straight relationships the last 15 years of my life, which has been consumed by my music career and living in Nashville, I never felt brave enough to talk about it."

Morris Was Formerly Married To Ryan Hurd And They Had A Child

Morris wed Hurd in 2018. The marriage ended in divorce five years later, per People. Their little boy, Hayes, is now five years old. Despite the pair's split, according to Morris, they are co-parenting successfully. She explained to the outlet a year ago, "There [are] so many emotions when you have a child with somebody and the relationship doesn't pan out. I feel like Ryan and I have done a really great job at just being great parents for him."
