Conner Smith, 24, an emerging young country music singer, was reportedly driving a pickup truck in Nashville on Sunday, June 8, when he allegedly hit and fatally injured an elderly woman, per People. According to the outlet, Dorothy Dobbins was reportedly in a crosswalk at the time. She was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she passed away. Dobbins was 77 years old. Per a press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the incident took place on 3rd Avenue North at approximately 7;30 p.m.

Sunday marked the conclusion of the yearly CMA Fest. The event held in Nashville lasts for four days and is a major showcase for country music.
The release also states, "The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Conner Smith, 24, was traveling north on 3rd Avenue North as Dobbins was crossing the roadway...The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment. There are no charges at present as the investigation continues."
Conner Smith's Attorney Issued A Statement
Per the outlet, Smith's attorney released a statement that said Smith was "involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life." The statement continued, "His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation."
An Anonymous Source Claimed That What Happened Was Accidental
That unnamed source, according to the outlet, said "that the incident was an accident, and that Smith was neither under the influence nor distracted by his phone."
