Although summer is around the corner, there's always time for a heartbreak song. "Airplanes and Telephones" tells the story of losing the one, and how that can spiral you down a path laced with tears, phone calls, and haunting dreams.
Although Copper Flats do the song justice, it was written by the finest songwriting trio in town. Andrew Dorff, Jonathon Singleton, and Zach Crowell. This mighty writing team has penned tracks for Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and so many more.
So yeah, it's a good song. Out of all their star connections, however, I'm glad Copper Flats got to it. With Brandon Kelly lending his sultry and smooth vocals and Drew Smith and Jeremy Castaldo hitting the instruments, Copper Flats inject their own punch into the song.
You can listen to "Airplanes and Telephones" below. Although it will be available on streaming platforms tomorrow.
The Copper Flats Are "Honored" To Have Been Offered "Airplanes And Telephones"
It's safe to say Copper Flats love the song, and are "honored" to have been offered it. In statements shared with WOC, they gushed over the track, the songwriters, and told us how they got involved.
"I remember I was in my garage working out with my wife when I played the song. After it was over, she said, "Play that again." I was hooked. I loved the meat of the tune," wrote Castaldo. "The lyrics and what the music could be really stood out from other songs we've been pitched.
"We used timeless country sounds with modern melodies to sing a song of heartbreak and describe all of our efforts to win "the" girl back in this one. This song strikes a chord, and we hope it will be playing on repeat on the listeners' boombox radio," he continued.
Smith then wrote that the team felt "honored to have been offered the song" after they learned who wrote it. They "knew it fit right in with [their] collective work for 2025."
Kelly finally expressed that they had a brilliant time recording the song. "Tracking this one in the studio was an absolute blast. Aaron Gillespie changed just about everything on the production side of this, and, after tracking, we couldn't be happier with the final product," he shared.
