The Insane Amount Of Money 'Yellowstone' Fans Spent On DVD Sales

DVDs are slowly joining the retirement home alongside VHS tapes and floppy disks. Yet Yellowstone somehow made a staggering amount of money thanks to physical sales (and paid downloads).

I remember when those big box sets of popular TV shows were a common commodity. Missed some episodes, or want to rewatch your favorite show? Grab the box set. These days, however, it's impossible to miss your favorite shows, as the episodes will be forever available online for streaming.

The adrenaline rush of going to the bathroom between adbreaks is no more thanks to the unwavering reins of progress.

Yet despite that, Yellowstone was able to defy expectations by earning a crazy amount of money from both physical DVD sales and private, paid downloads. We don't really own our media anymore, we just pay monthly for the privilege of accessing everything.

But it seems people really wanted to have the Dutton Ranch on their shelves and in their download folders.

How Much Did 'Yellowstone' Make From Private Purchases?

Per Popculture, Bloomberg spoke to Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy. There, he shared how much money Yellowstone has made from DVD sales and private downloads.

$450 million.

That's almost half a billion dollars just on private ownership alone.

We really should get back into the habit of owning our media. In the increasingly cut-throat world of media, you never know when greedy execs will want to cut costs by axing a streaming service or two, or removing a show from their catalogue.

But if you have the DVDs or have privately downloaded your shows, you won't have to worry about not being able to access them should the worst happen.

Hopefully the success of private ownership for Yellowstone will send a message to other shows, who may get back into the throws of producing physical copies of their seasons.

Of course, it is easy for Yellowstone to have made so much money from private purchases. It was one of the most popular shows going for years. And now that it's ended, fans can have the satisfaction of owning the set as a collection piece.
