Billy Bob Thornton Once Almost Fought an SNL Crew Member

Have you ever wondered if there have been legit fist fights during SNL? I like to imagine it's some people getting uptight about a joke. Not everyone shares the same sense of humor, some people are sticklers in that way. That or they're sensitive and don't know how to take things in jest. However, sometimes, it can just be a clash of egos. A pair of people could butt heads for something absolutely trivial. This is the case for Billy Bob Thornton when he hosted SNL back in 2001. A seemingly avoidable moment turned into something incredible tense fast.

Recently, Seth Meyers and Lonely Island sit down on their podcast to recall an old SNL story with Thornton. There, they highlight when the actor was wearing a baseball hat while going over his monologue. Then, longtime lighting director for the show Phil Hymes comes in incensed, needing Billy Bob to take his hat off. However, the actor didn't take it well when he didn't address it to him directly.

"Hey old man, if you've got something to say, say it to my face," Thornton tells Hymes, according to Meyers. "Now I also want to clarify Billy Bob Thornton did not do this in front of everybody. He walked off stage and he went and talked to Phil Hymes, real man to man. I never saw Phil do this. Phil had a real 'I apologize' moment. There was a real like two decent men of honor [exchange]."

After the pair hashed it out like men, the show went off without a hitch. His monologue still went on, baseball hat on and all. I guess these are some reasons why Billy Bob Thornton doesn't feel like he fits the Hollywood ecosystem anymore. It's drama like this.
