Darius Rucker Reveals Moving to London Has Changed How His New Music Sounds

How does country music even sound when you're across the pond? I always imagine the genre as exclusive to the American south, the humidity, the big ol' trucks, the mosquitos. There's only so much you can gauge from that when you're in places like London or Australia. The experiences are wholly different, hence why the former makes the most sense with folk music instead. Consequently, it's hard to imagine hearing Darius Rucker as anything other than country or southern rock. How does Hootie & The Blowfish even work outside of the South?

Back in February, Rucker revealed that he packed his bags to live out in the U.K. for a while to perform shows and record music. "I've been a traveling musician all my life. I'm living in London while working on some new music and playing some shows," Darius writes at the time. "Always been on the bucket list — but don't get it twisted y'all ... nothing will ever replace the Carolinas and it is still home. Thanks for believing in me and supporting my music wherever we make it! Love y'all!"

Now, apparently, we'll see how this music has affected his own music.

Darius Rucker Opens Up About London and His Upcoming Music

Recently, Rucker spoke with PEOPLE at the Food & Wine Festival in Aspen to promote his wine brand As One Cru. There, he opens up about the music he's excited to release on the horizon. Additionally, he feels like his move to London has unlocked something wholly unique and fresh. Evidently, the music is good enough where he feels like fans will love the direction he's headed towards.

"I'm working on my album, I'm sure my single's going to be coming out here soon, you know, and I'm ready for people hear that," Darius says. "I went to London to get just a different flavor. And I think I did that. I think people are going to like what we did. I'm looking forward to finishing my record and getting that out. I think it's refreshing, it's new. I think my fans are gonna be really, really excited.
