Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Might Be Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame This Year

Next year, the songwriter category at the Country Music Hall of Fame will need an inductee. Here's why some think it might be Taylor Swift.

Every spring, the Country Music Hall of Fame inducts three new members. This year, it's Kenny Chesney, June Carter-Cash, and Tony Brown. With the rotating category for next year's inductee being songwriter, people have been getting excited about future inductees. Some people suspect that someone who's a bit outside the country genre might be the perfect fit. She'll also be eligible for the first time this year. I'll give you a hint - it's Taylor Swift.

Taylor hasn't been country for a minute, but some think that she could be perfect for two of the categories. The other categories for inductees are Modern Era Artist and Veteran Era Artist, and in 2026, Swift will also be eligible for the Modern Era category.

Artists have to have been active for at least 20 years post-reaching "national prominence," which Swift did with her debut. She's had a lot of different "eras" since then, but many people still know the music she made at 16. Now that she's 36, fans think that this "lasting impact" could make her elligible for a category.

She's Not Country Anymore - Why Swift?

Seeing as she's now a pop artist, what is it about Swift that makes her qualify for such an award? Well, to start, the girl has 14 GRAMMY awards, the highest of any artist in history. Not only that, but thanks to her run on the "Eras" tour, she's had the highest-grossing tour of any artist. Even though her current genre is pop, she still impacted country music fans. That includes many of the female country music artists who are relevant today. Even Miranda Lambert commented on how Swift's approach to country changed the genre for the better.

""Taylor Swift is a pop singer," she told  W Magazine back in 2012. "But she really helped country music. When she hit, I was thinking, 'Thank God Taylor's out there to show people we're not cheesy.' Some people still think that country music is twangy and cheesy, and they pigeonhole us. But I thought if they're looking for Taylor's videos or songs, they might see or hear other people they like. If her fans are watching for her, they might like me too."

Other modern country stars like Kelsea Ballerini have credited Swift with being a "north star" for songwriting specifically. Ballerini said in an interview with NBC, "When I started writing songs, guess who I listened to all the time? Taylor Swift," she said. "By the time I finally got into the opportunities to be in front of, like, a record label or whatever, I'll never forget. I was 14? I sang him a song called 'Flawless.' [Swift's] single [at the time] was 'Fearless.'

Regardless of what kind of music she makes now, Taylor has changed country music for the better. She's already received so much recognition, but there's a reason for it. Whether it's the country world or the pop world, nobody knows music quite like Taylor Swift. For now, we'll just have to see if the Country Music Hall of Fame agrees.
