Wynonna Judd Makes a Teenage Singer's Dream Come True

When Misty Lane Watson heard that her hero Wynonna Judd was performing near her town, she decided to shoot her shot.

Misty Lane Watson has idolized Wynonna Judd since childhood. When the Moberly Lake, British Columbia, resident learned the country music icon would perform at the Energetic County Fair on July 18 in nearby Fort St. John, she knew she had to get tickets.

"I grew up listening to her, and her music has really touched my heart," the aspiring singer told local news outlet Energeticcity.ca

Her excitement over the concert soon gave way to a bold idea: What if she could join Judd onstage to sing "Turn It Loose"? Watson began to devise a plan.

Watson Grew Up With Music

It was the parents of the 15-year-old musician who instilled in Watson a love of music. Her mother loved to sing, and her father was a member of a popular local band. At the age of 8, Watson learned to play guitar. She also has performed in and won several talent shows.

"I truly do have a deep connection to music," says Watson.

While the aspiring musician cites Ella Langley, Morgan Wallen, and Loretta Lynn as influences, she holds a special place in her heart for Judd, particularly the song "Turn It Loose," which she performed with her late mother Naomi as part of the iconic duo The Judds.

"Every time I hear the song, I just remember really good childhood memories," Watson said.

Watson Had to Get Wynonna Judd's Attention

To get Judd's attention, Watson made a bright pink sign that read, "Wynonna, I love you, can I please sing 'Turn It Loose' with you?" She then arrived before the fair opened so she could sit in the front row of the area where Judd would perform. It was a lot of work, but it eventually paid off.

"I just held up the sign and she gave me a little nod," said Watson.

Watson said it was the largest audience she had performed in front of. Singing with the red-haired legend was a dream come true.

"It was absolutely amazing, I was nervous, but I'm standing next to a country music legend, it was just such a rush, and I just got right into it," Watson said.

Watson has plans to audition for The Voice and America's Got Talent in a few years. Judd will perform at the 40th anniversary of Farm Aid later this year.
