Sheryl Crow recently appeared at Stand Up to Cancer. It's a star-studded, televised fundraiser that increases public awareness of the disease. Per People, the celebrated singer talked about her own past cancer battle. She also described why she believes that her music touches both young and older people. Per the outlet, Crow attributes it to this reason. "the music that you gravitate to is the music that you've made a lot of memories to."

She explained, "When I hear stuff from like the '80s or you know, '90s, I go, 'Oh my God, I remember where I was when I heard that.' And so for some of these young people, their parents were playing my music and they had memories like water skiing to 'Soak Up the Sun' and things like that."
Crow, 63, also mentioned, "[M]usic makes us feel and it makes us remember and it brings us together."
She had an empowering message for women. "I'm a chick, right? That is still going. And so I think for these young women also, I'm sort of a good illustration that you can keep going and keep going and still write music and play,"
Sheryl Crow Is a Breast Cancer Survivor
She was diagnosed with the disease almost twenty years ago. It was stage 1. After undergoing seven weeks of radiation treatment, Crow "was declared cancer-free." She voiced strong support for Stand Up to Cancer.
"I'm celebrating 20 years this coming April of being cancer-free. So to me, it's about showing up for the people that I know right now who are battling, but also celebrating the fact that I was caught early."

Stand Up to Cancer will be televised on Friday, August 15. It airs at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and Pacific Time / 7:00 p.m. Central Time. It will be shown on ABC, CBS, Fox, And NBC, plus many streaming services.
Per the organization's web site, this is their mission. "Stand Up to Cancer raises awareness and funds research to detect and treat cancers with the aspiration to cure all patients." It should be a fun evening that also serves a great purpose.
